Qualified as an occupational therapist in 1987, Heather Batey joined the Leeds Head
Injury Team in 1992 after extensive experience in psychiatric day hospitals and neuro-rehabilitation within
the NHS. She has several years of local authority experience, developing and implementing programmes for
physically disabled clients and their carers.
She played a key role in the three year Nuffield funded project into the needs of head-injured clients in
their own environments, co-ordinating service delivery and developing and implementing therapy programmes.
From 1992 to 1995 she was a member of the Leeds Head Injury Team, working with home-based clients to develop
personal skills, regain independence and improve social behaviour, leading them in all aspects of self-care
and home management through to their return to employment. In 1994 she was selected by the 1994 World
Conference of Occupational Therapy to present an account of her important work with the Team at Leeds.
Over the past 10 years she has founded and developed reach personal
injury services limited. She has presented at nationwide conferences
and submitted articles on the effectiveness of brain injury rehabilitation
to claimant and defence solicitors, in addition to insurers.
